Pan and zoom photos on the desktop

Google+ is full of amazing photos, and today we're introducing the ability to pan and zoom when viewing photos from your desktop. To give these features a try, simply open a large photo in the lightbox, then:

– use your mouse wheel to zoom in or out
– click and drag to pan right, left, up or down

Higher resolution photos will offer more to explore, so we're excited to launch pan and zoom just weeks after launching full-size backups of your Android photos (http://goo.gl/KRpjE).

Give 'em a go, and let us know your thoughts as we improve on these and other features!

  1. Doesn't work in fullscreen mode only initial Lightbox.
What are 'Higher Resolution' … more than the 2048 limit at the moment? Gonna check now

  2. And here's the answer from Google +Tom Menzie :
+Clement Biger Photos uploaded through G+ (not instant-uploaded) are resized to the free 2048 resolution. You can upload a larger size if you go through the PicasaWeb UI (which will count against your storage quota).

  3. Just found this by accident tonight.  I zoomed into my 2048px image and it looked a lot sharper when you could actually see the details.  Isn't going to get you into one of those giant images like +Ricardo Liberato  posted the other day, but it is nice to be able to easily zoom on the 2048px image at least.

  4. Get a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, +Ricardo Lagos +Clement Biger +Thomas Hawk….

The only way I found for those big pictures is to upload them as files to dropbox (which also fails to make thumbnails, etc) than point zoom.it (microsoft owned, btw)…

flickr fails at around 100mpix, 500px also failed miserably last time I tried. still haven't checked microsoft skydrive .

  5. This IS an AWESOME tool for getting a better look at photos in the light box when voting.  LOVE it!  Photos should still be larger than 2048, but LOVE it!

  6. Picasa should offer us free unlimited storage for $24.95 per year like Flickr does.  It would be a better deal than having to pay the current rates there.  It's hard to get invested with full sized uploads to G+ when you know you'll have to end up paying through the nose to store stuff there.

  7. Unfortunately I doubt Google starts any kind of segmentation regarding storage. So any storage bought covers all Google services. I'm currently on the 25GB offer… which is more expensive than Flickr's offer. Unlimited storage for $25/year won't be happening soon at Google I'm afraid :(.
